Potable Water System Improvements Project
The Town of St. Lucie Village has been awarded $12,124,812.00 of CDBG-DR funding for the Potable Water System Improvements Project to construct a centralized potable water distribution system that will replace individual private wells with a resilient, municipally operated water supply. The project includes installation of approximately 35,790 linear feet of potable water main, including 12-inch transmission main along U.S. Highway 1 and 8-inch distribution mains along Old Dixie Highway and connecting roadways, as well as fire hydrants, valves, meters, and associated appurtenances. The project is designed to integrate with the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) regional water system, allowing FPUA to extend service into additional high-risk and low-income areas, including nearby mobile home communities that currently lack safe water access and fire protection.
The completion of this project will:
- Eliminate reliance on vulnerable private wells.
- Improve protection from flood-related and saltwater contamination.
- Enhance public health, fire safety, and emergency response capability through installation of hydrants.
- Increase long-term resilience to future extreme weather events.
